THE CUESTA COLLEGE AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

The Cuesta Agricultural Technology (CAT) program is a joint program between the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly State University and Cuesta College for an AS degree in Agriculture. Students in the program are Cuesta College students authorized to take College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences courses at a matriculated fee rate. Enrollment is monitored and the following program policies are strictly enforced.

WHAT ARE THE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS?
Since you are applying to Cuesta College, you must meet Cuesta admissions requirements, i.e., you must be 18 years of age or older. Individuals under the age of 18 must meet one of the following requirements to qualify for admission:

• Graduation from high school, or
• Successful completion of the California High School Certificate of Proficiency Test, or
• Successful completion of the General Education Development (G.E.D.) test

WHAT ARE THE MAJORS?
The eleven majors within the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences for your consideration are Animal Science, Crop Science, Fruit Science, Dairy Production, Dairy Product Technology, Environmental Horticulture Science (Floral Design, Plant Production, or Landscape Horticulture), Food Science, Agriculture Systems Management, and BioResource & Agricultural Engineering. You will need to select one of these areas at the beginning of your program. Curriculum information may be obtained in the Cuesta College Career/Transfer Center.

WHO WILL BE MY ACADEMIC ADVISOR?
You will actually have two academic advisors. Vocational counselor Linda Brady will assist you at Cuesta College (546-3162) and one of five Cal Poly faculty members will be your second advisor. They are listed below.

WHAT CLASSES DO I TAKE AT CAL POLY?
You and your Cal Poly faculty advisor should discuss your curriculum together. You may enroll only in lower division (100 and 200 level) courses in the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly. Agriculture Technology students may not take classes outside of the College of Agriculture, Food & Environmental Sciences. Students attempting to do so will be disenrolled from those classes, and will be dismissed from the program after repeated attempts.

The allowed course prefixes are: AG, AGB, AGC, AGED, ASCI, BRAE, CRSC, DSCI, EHS, ERSC, FNR, FRSC, FSN, HCS, PM, PPSC, REC, SS, VGSC, VS, WVIT

WHAT CLASSES DO I TAKE AT CUESTA?
You will take your general education and major support courses at Cuesta. Discuss the G.E. and support requirements with Cuesta College counselor Linda Brady
at 546-3162.

WILL I BE GIVEN PRIORITY FOR ADMISSION TO CAL POLY?
No. You may apply for transfer to Cal Poly for a degree program at any time Cal Poly is accepting applications. You will need to meet the same requirements as any other transfer student.

WHAT ARE THE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAT PROGRAM GRADUATES?
You will be competitive with other graduates of two-year programs in agriculture. Specific career opportunities may be discussed with your Cal Poly advisor before starting the program.

FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS:
Financial aid is available for qualified students. Applications are due April 15. Contact the Cuesta College Financial Aid office at 546-3141 for an application. The SLO County Cattle Women’s Association offers a $500.00 scholarship to students in the Ag. Tech. program.

CUESTA:	Enrollment Fee:	$20 per unit
	Health Fee:	$14 per semester
	ASCC Picture ID Fee:	$10 per semester (optional)
	Student Center Fee:	$1 per unit ($10 maximum per year)
	Student Rep. Fee:	$1 per semester
	Non-Resident Tuition:	$173 per unit plus above fees
CAL POLY:	Class Registration Fee: (as of Fall 2007)	6 units or less, $1054 more than 6 units, $1563
	Non-Resident Tuition:	$226 per unit plus above fees
